Exclamation Reverse gear problem after new clutch!

    hi guys.
i have just had a new clutch fitted. but last night went to move the car forward so my brother could get in behind me. as anyonee would do ud put it 1st gear n pull away. but my problem is 1st gear was reverse i nearly pooped myself lol. i didnt even lift the thingy on the gear stick to engage reverse. i eventually found 1st gear between reverse and third. ive noticed the leaver on the gear stick for reverse gear does nothing now. can this be fixed or do i need to learn how to drive without using that selector thingy.

thanks for your help if ya understand any of it.

I dont know if this will work but what i would try is put it in first the one you found lol lift the gaiter unclip the cables so they dont move when you put your stick into the proper first position as i say i dont know if this will work but can give it a go lol

all the gears are in the right place.its just that im used to pushing the gear stick all the way to the left then lifing tht reverse thingy on stick to select reverse. but now the reverse selector thing does nothing. i used to be able to push the stick to left and up with out lifting that thingy for 1st gear. and when i used to lift the reverse selector on the stick it used to move a little further left but now it doesnt. streight back from current reverse gear the is no gear so im thinking that the selector thing is not attached to the gear linkage or is broken. the only problem ive had the clutch done on the cheap (a friend of a friend fitted it)

Why not get your bro to sit in the car and you under the bonnet and see what is going on while he is changing gear.

Sounds like u need to readjust the gear cables under the gear stick. The cable is attached by ball and socket that pops on or pops off. Along with that is teeth mech that can adjust. My advice. The left one unpop it, unclip the teeth mech and pop it back on and select reverse then the clip teeth mech back on. Now try it. Will it now do where it should be?

If cable are disconnected. The gearstick will be too loose. That means unattached!

I had to replace my cable as when i bought my car. Half way home the gears got loose and couldnt go anywhere as gears came netrual cos nothing attached. The clip in engine bay was broken. Cable tied til home. New one fitted and all gears i tried selected reverse!!! So i adjusted the teeth mech and works after that. U'll know what i mean about teeth mech when u see it!
