Default 3.0cdti - anything I should look out for?

    Hi,

I'm looking to return to the fold having sold my Vectra 1.9cdti SRI a few years back now.

I've seen an '05 plate Vectra 3.0cdti SRI Auto with 70k and lots of extras, which tickles my fancy.

Are there any particular problems these regularly suffer from? I'm thinking EGR, DMF etc? As far as I can make out, the overheating problem these engines had in Saabs was particular just to that installation, and that the Vauxhall ones aren't troublesome?

Will an '05 3.0cdti have a DPF? I'm rather hoping it hasn't as my 56 plate 1.9cdti didn't - hate DPF's for the copious amount of fuel they use to regen every few hundred miles, and the associated problems if they don't do the regen cycle properly!

Lastly; am I right in thinking that an auto with 70k is likely to be more reliable (transmission-wise) that an equivalent manual?

Thanks for any help guys - I must say it's nice to be back on this Forum - having subscribed to several others (different manufacturers) since selling my last SRI; none of them are a patch on this one for the friendly, helpful subscribers.

    John.

They are known up here in the Netheands for there fuelpomp failure and injector problems.
    All very costly.

With respect to the engine, just buy a good third party warranty, if not covered by Network Q
Make sure it covers the Fuel Pump, DMF, and Clutch

Everything else is standard Vectra C issues; suspension, steering, brakes, and electrical
    Check all springs and shocks
Check tyres for uneven wear, especially the rear
This car is heavy on brakes (if high mileage) so check the surfaces front and rear

If the car has a full VX Service History, then contact the dealerships and see if any warranty claims were submitted
If there is no record of SCV failure, then budget £1000 for this (see warranty above) as it will fail eventually

Thanks Guys. I am now the proud owner of an '05 3.0cdti SRI Auto with heated leather, electric roof, DAB Radio and 18" wheels. It's done 70k and has full Vx Service History. Extremely pleased with it and can't believe how economical it is :-) The only problem it seems to have is the dreaded droning from the rear - I've read the thread on here that indicates the most likely cause to be tyres, which seems to make sense as it's got budget tyres on it, and they are slightly more worn on the inner edges than the rest of the tread width.

This suggests they have been on the rear a long time, and the previous owner was simply replacing the front tyres as they wore out
The trick is to swap rear to front as they wear out, thus you only need to two at a time
    Personally, bin the rears
Once you have done this perform a full four wheel alignment (Hunters equipment)

Yes - that's exactly what I'll be doing. Thanks.
