    Default New tyre time......

Today is payday..... And the car needs 2 new boots. I'm after decent mid range tyres in 225/45 17 size and have previously stuck with Conti Sport contacts.
Anyone have any recommendations for other brands such as Dunlop or Pirelli?? There are a few offers on Pirelli tyres in local centres.
    thanks guys

    Uniroyal Rainsport 2's.

Best tyres I've ever had on a Vectra.

Always found buying on line is the cheapest method (Camskill), and then giving the local ATS some beer money to fit.

I'd use the experience from the Continentals as a reference. Think about their properties and decide what you want different re. your planned use.
    Would you buy again?

Very much a personal choice when choosing tyres & where you get them from. I had occasion to use Blackcircles & was advised when i had the tyres fitted that the tyre depot could have done them cheaper if i'd have gone to them directly! Think about it, Blackcircles (plus camskill etc...) have to make money to run their site & pay staff etc!

As for tyres themselves, i have a couple of GT Radial Champiro Plus tyres on my fronts. I can't remember the price, but they were reasonable & had good reviews & i have had no problems with them regarding noise & grip. I use the mytyres site to check prices &, more importantly, check the reviews. I would never buy via a website!

Yes. Brilliant in both. The wear rate isn't high either.

Uniroyal doesn't have the slogan "The Rain Tyre" for nothing.

Erhm. Anybody can make a slogan for themselves so that alone doesn't make a fact

Being owned by Michelin and a major brand in most markets, Uniroyal have a name and a tradition since many years and seem to get pretty good reviews in tests in general. Some of their patterns had a narrower footprint than others of same width, to increase load and help fight aquaplaning.
FWIW the German ADAC (in the only country still to have no speed limits on freeways) do tests several times a year. Various sizes because a winner in one size definately does not guarantee winners in all sizes, and lately got these results for 205/55-16 (I've added a little text for those not used to German language):

    adactyre.jpg

    Green marks = Good
    Light yellow marks = Satisfactory

'Gewichtung' means weight, to reflect that not all properties are regarded the same importance.
