Very easy mate. I used one quite long flat blade screwdriver. Just get it between the ball and the joint and it will pop off. Take your time and its a very easy job to do mate. I am mechanically inept but managed it!!

Mate no splitting needed basically pop up the gaitor then lift it up round ya gear stick. Then looking down ul see 4 torx screws undo those leave 2 in place slack now reach down to the top right ul see the cable with a clip just unclip that and it will disconnect now take the over 2 torx screw out and the whole gear stick will pop out nothing needs forced no screw drivers just lift it up/out took me ten mins to change over To a astra one

If you dont split it its is going to be a c*nt of a job getting to them torx screws i just did mine and i replaced the full stick and housing and i had to take out the full center consul from the arm rest right to the section around the gear stick as there was no way of getting a torx socked down that space (i tried lol)
