i have read the few threads i can find and it seems it can be a bit of a pain to get to the filter
is it worth doing at home or a job for a garage?
i think i need a 32mm socket for the filter?

32mm spanner, if it's like the 8v you'll struggle to get a socket in. Only thing you can do is accept the slow rate of progress and slog it out. It's a pretty simple job if you're not rushing and get the nose high enough to start with.

Should be easier enough to do on your drive, I've just purchased a 32mm socket and torx bit for the sump plug, got tired of borrowing my dads tools lol. Going to change my oil in the next couple of weeks when its due its service.
thanks guys
ok then i need to find a socket or a spanner then as i dont think i have either in 32mm size.
what else would you need to change for a service on this engine?
air filter, pollen filter, glow plugs can stay until they fail.
time to test out the trolley jack i bought about 2 years ago that's still in its cellophane then!
the air filter is fairly new as the one on it was disgusting but will change it anyway.
it does need a pollen filter.
fuel filter there is a how 2 for so that seems easy enough.
then just oil and filter change then. seems easy enough.
i have heard of people changing brake fluid, my dad says he has never changed brake fluid!
Mine had a major service around 11 months ago with all the above boxes ticked, I then changed the air filter for a CS one, so I will only do the oil and filter and clean + re-oil the air filter this time.
thanks guys.
what brands do people use?
euro car parts or gsf have all the bits but dont seem as cheap as some places. dont want to buy cheap quality tho
Asda have Castrol GTX 10w40 for £4 A litre at the moment
4 litre carton is £20 - you do the maths... lol
