Default Possible safety feature or engine problem?

Fuel light was on and range suggested I had about 10 miles left but when I put my foot down in second gear the car would judder like it was restricted at 3k revs (I think or it was 2.5k revs) then when I tried third gear it would do the same either (3k revs or 3.5k revs). If I kept my foot down it would pass through it and rev like normal.

I did fuel up this morning and the problem had gone but I was wondering if anyone has had this problem or know if its some form of feature?

Sorry if this has already been posted but I've been unable to find it.

    Thanks

Muck will get sucked up into the fuel line when it's ran low.

No it won't. There will be a 'tea bag' filter on the pick up pipe. More likely it has sucked some air up with the fuel, or the filter got blocked a little too much with the lower than usual fuel to 'slosh' around and wash off any debris.

If it drives OK now, then don't worry. I regularly had the fuel light on and has no issues. If the MIL didn't come on then it should be OK

mine did the same. i wouldnt worry. like the others said, fill up as soon as it goes orange, simples. if you notice, drive smoothly and accelerate gently and it'll be just fine, try it out next time.

The weird bit about it was that it seemed to judder when the needle hit exactly on a number, as if the computer was doing it.
But yeah I was driving home late at night...I collect morrisons vouchers so I was waiting to fuel up in the morning lol
