    Default Power steering problem

Hi all. i seem to have developed a problem with my power steering on my way home from work today. The problem is that its gone really stiff and at times feels like there is no power steering at all but the steering light hasnt come on! Anybody have any ideas?

not sure mate, jsut seems strange that your both suffering from this and the only thing in common could be the amount of water - may not have anything to do with it though.

When my steering started doing this it turned out to be a nightmare. Not saying its the same problem with yours, but check the voltage across the battery terminals with the car running. Someone correct me if i am wrong here but it should be somewhere around 14v. If its not then likely the alternator has packed up.

Normally electric power steering gets the feed direct off the alternator first so load up all systems and start checking voltages at alternator. Eps pump and battery then work from there

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago (although I then also had problems with starting) and turned out to be a faulty alternator.

Usually alternator but would have thought they would be getting the P/steering light if alternator - check fluid levels as well
