Default Thinking of replacing the Gsi, what to get ?

I thinking of replacing my 03 Gsi with something else but not sure what to get...

The obvious choice is a Vxr i guess but the road tax / stretching chain issues puts me off, the earlier lower tax bracket cars are like hens teeth in good condition and all seem to have higher miles than my 50k Gsi. Not fussed about Mpg as i work less than a mile from home and use my road bike to get there when its dry, and most other journeys i do are made in partners astra coupe. Ive also got a modified Cav Turbo i use as a play thing(when its not broken) so dont need anything too fast. So what do i buy thats fairly modern (year 2000 or later), lower tax, sporty to drive, not very common and can be used daily if need be. Ive got about 10 - 12k to spend. So far im thinkin pre 06 Monaro Vxr, Vx220 Turbo, Boxster, M3 ...

Can anyone think of other cars i should consider

My Brother in law has a Boxster, 02 plate I think, just a 2.7 but he loves it and has it out as often as possible. I had a drive of it, for overtaking it was unbelievable, but then I have a 1.8 Vec so most cars are, lol. He paid around £12k for his last year, from a garage, so I guess private they easily fall in to your budget.

I wouldnt normally consider a Porsche but they do hold their money well and generally get used as second cars so there aint too many rough ones about with high miles. I pretty much set my heart on a Monaro but it would be foolish not to consider other options like the boxster. Im in no rush to buy gonna have a good look round and test drive a few

Yea he looked at quite a few before deciding on the one to buy. Tyres seem to be the only real expense, but he sticks to the OE Michelins, think the rears were about £250 each. He can get over 35mpg on a run though. Sure I have a couple of pics of it here.

Nicer inside too, my bother in laws has the tan interior. That's not bad mileage wise either. As I said in my original post on my brother in laws one, I was very surprised at how compliant the suspension was, really did soak up the bumps and potholes far better than Id expected.

How about an Impreza WR1. Only a few thundered were ever made and they are the fastest accelerating production Subaru ever made. They hold their value too. Only come in one colour tho, but it's nice

What about looking at a Lotus Elise or TVR? You should get one in your price range!
