Default Brake and Side Light Problem

I have a problem with the second side\brake light on the passenger side, it stays on all the time since the other day when the bulb warning light appeared on the dash. The light stays on even with the ignition switched off. I have a 2.2 DTI vectra on a 53 plate, can anybody point me in the right direction???? I have taken the bulb out, so not to drain the battery. This is my first post sorry if it is in the wrong place.

The parking light is staying on, this suggests the left hand indicator is activating when you remove the ignition key
This could be a fault in the CIM module
Try pushing the indicator up when the iginition is off, then remove the key and compare
If that doesn't resolve the issue remove the indicator stalk and compare

As the OP has advised, the side lights are both ofthe front parking light
The parking light option comes on when you press the indictor then remove the key
This then illuminates the relevant front side light and rear lamp on that side only

Yeah I know that but he says side/ brake light.

So I'm trying to work out if it's the side of the car or if it's just the cluster at rear.

Deoending on what it is will dictate wich approach to take to investigate fault

I read that as both, as in the subject, ie front side lamp (parking light) and rear lamp
ie, the parking light option is active when the ignition key is removed

I checked the front light this morning and it was not on. The rear light comes on as soon as the bulb is replaced, with the ignition turned off and no keys in. All the other rear and front lights are working correctly.

You have a short in that rear light.

try putting that bulb in a pulling other bulbs see if it goes.

Try wiggling the wires a connector to the light.

Do you have a test light or multimeter?
