Default Still occasional bang from front after replacing ARB droplinks

    Hi Guys,

I just last week replaced the front ARB droplinks (with uprated ones) due to banging over potholes, speed bumps etc. The originals have done 93K and tbh looked shot! New ones seemed to cure the banging and car handling felt noticeably tighter. My car is a 56 SRI estate 1.9 150 btw.

However, last night I was out in the car going down what seemed a particular bumpy road and could hear/feel an occasional knock. Again from the front. It seems to occur more often with big rolling type bumps rather than 'sharp' potholes.

Any ideas what this could be? I'm thinking that the new droplinks may now be transferring more 'energy' into the ARB bushes (i.e. they are working harder) and if they are worn out then i'll get bangs and knocks from there. The knocking sounds the same as the knocking from the old droplinks maybe not as loud. I thought about changing the ARB bushes as a matter of course when doing the droplinks but decided against it.

Springs are only a couple of months old. I didn't replace the top bearings or top mounts when i did the springs. The bearings seemed to be smooth and didn't appear to be dry - plenty of grease in there. I also reused the plastic sleeves around the bottom of each spring.

Gonna try nip up the body to top mount bolts tomorrow to see if that helps. In the mean time what do you reckon...It's not the characteristic 'squelching' sound but could it be the ARB bushes??

Finally car had MOT today. Pass with no advisories (go figure!).

    Cheers

You mean the "sleeves" that go on the end of the springs?

Interesting. Where did you get them from Vx? I just did a couple of searches on ebay but didn't really know what to search for. Came up with nothing.

That said (and i would be willing to try an extra set of sleeves), it does sound more like a knock or bang rather than a twang. I heard the last front spring go when reversing out of my parents drive and that was definately a TWANG...knew instantly the spring had gone.

Vx they are a couple £ but not alot. Work at vx it's a rework, so if a customer complains it's a cheap attempt to fix it. All 4 vectras i've owned made a big difference.

Easy to find on the parts computer there is a choice of two green or blue which are different diameters
