Default Help needed - nissan micra

Just need some ideas really. THe other half's car is overheating, but the collant level hasn't decreased so I know its not leaking. I suspect the fan is broken as it never comes on when the engine is running - but how can I test it? I suspect a multimeter in the plug would help, except I don't have one....any other ideas?

    themostat?

sure fans dont come on very much in normal circumstances, to test fan leave it turned on the drive for a little while, but keep eye on temp gaugue to make sure you can turn it off, dont leave it unatended.

Give the fan a power an earth an serif outruns up.

How ever really do need a multimeter to check power wiring etc.

Basic first check would be fuses an relays

Do the cabin heaters work correctly?

fan may work if he just applies 12v though it could be a faulty switch that turns the fan on off ect

    more likely the thermostat

check the fan will turn by hand without making noise obviously make sure its not hot

if the fan has gone then the chances are the fuse would blow id check that fuse first

It could be the stat for the fan and not the fan itself. That stat is usually in the rad somewhere with 2 wires to it. Normally the stat just earths the fan when up to temp but may be different on a micra. Just try linking it out and see if the fan kicks in.

yes, thats why i think just shoving 12v to the fan would only proove if the fan motor was working, i cant see it been just the fan, but id like to be prooved wrong.
