    Question Worn gear knob

Hi, any of you know how I can spruce up my gear knob?

The top sides of it are worn down , looks like it needs a respray of lacquer? Does it detach?

Thanks for the suggestions but I'm looking to do this on the (really) cheap. Does the cap pop off and can you then unscrew the top part?

It is very firmly fixed and will be pretty much ruined by intentionally removing it. They do ironically have a habit of loosening off themselves however
