    Default Parking brakes warning.

Just thought i'd share this with you all.
My Father-in-law has just bought a brand new Astra estate that has the electric parking brake set up.
He went shopping the other day and as he walked away from his car, he was told by a passer by that his car was rolling away !

He ran after it and managed to slow it down a little before it hit some railings at low speed/impact, but its put some marks in the bumper..!

So he's been intouch with Vauxhall who are looking at getting it sorted for him (paint and bumper repaired & possible causes).
They are aware there maybe problems with the electric parking brake, not only the Astra's, but also the Insignia !

Seems we have Deja Vu with Vauxhall and handbrake issues

Have consideration for the deaf, if you're gunna fart, make it smell !

Cars no matter what age should have a mechanical linkage to operate the brakes in the event of an emergency. I wouldn't trust hydraulics solely and electrics are another thing.

I refuse to leave my car I gear. Handbrake is designed to hold the car not a clutch plate. That's why my car has just had free check over at Vauxhall as the handbrake released even though it had had the recall done. Turns out it still had the old spring on and was never replaced by the dealer who are now being investigated by Vauxhall as to why it wasn't done correctly

It IS designed to hold it, but we all know otherwise. Hence why I also always leave it in gear. I wouldn't feel happy solely relying on the handbrake, it's a habit I got into I suppose since day one of driving. The handbrake still holds the car, the gearbox is a kind of back up.

I am quite taken with the new Astra GTC, and Wendy is due a car change, was looking at Astra Tourers, we were told disregard th electric handbrake shown on demo's and brochures as they are being phased out, any new production will have the old mechanical handbrake - could be why.

Is there much else in the highway code you refuse to follow?
