Default Drive to Sweden and back

    Hi all,

not been on for a while, but I am now retired since end of Feb as firm closed down. I have just returned from a 3 week holiday to Sweden to see my son.

I decided to drive the vec out this time. I can only say how impressed I am with the car. 2008 Vec Cdti150 auto. Now showing 50K miles. I covered 3,610 miles in total and the car never missed a beat. Took 3 days each way, covering 500 miles a day. Used 70 galls of fuel, which averages at 51mpg. It was showing a better average mpg till I got to Germany.

It was great driving through Germany on the roads with no speed limit, I spent a long time at high speeds, which I haven't done for many a year. Gave the engine a chance to stretch its legs. Even at the highest speed the engine was only doing 2,500rpm

I think we should get Angela Merkel installed into 10 Downing Street and get some of our speed limits raised.

I gave the car a quick service before I left, as it had been 10k miles since the previous oil change. Did oil + filter, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filter and took a spare fuel filter with me.

All I can say is the car is great, and I love driving it.

I've been to Finland a couple of times, but not by car. The Nordic countries landscape always seems to me to more raw, less manicured, than the majority of the UK.
And the lack of traffic (outside the major cities) on the roads is nice too. The closest to that you get in the UK is Scotland past Glasgow/Edinbugh or some parts of west Wales.
The Beer is a bit dear tho'.

Is there a series of bridges island-hopping between Denmark and Sweden? Bet that's a fun drive. Bit like Miami to Key West (only colder).

I took the channel tunnel, then went through Germany and up through to Denmark passing Flensburg, then across a bridge Denmark to Denmark, then a second bridge from Copenhagen to Malmo in Sweden. The traffic is very light in Sweden except around the Stockholm area. I encountered the heaviest rain I have ever driven in, I was down to 10 mph and couldn't see a thing. I had to stop 4 times and wait for the rain to ease. Also hail which I thought was damaging the car, but it seem ok.
