    Default 1.9cdti head gasket?

    Hi

not a Vectra but we have a Vivaro 1.9cdti which is loosing coolant, no oil in coolant and no brown sludge in the oil, I suspected head gasket but we filled it up with coolant didnt drive it for a week and checked levels and there was no coolant.

I assumed if head gasket it would only leak with engine on and pressurised?

No visible leaks and nothing on the floor

    Many Thanks for any input

if you've lost coolant whilst not driving it you must have a leak somewhere as it cant just dissapear

Thanks, so it can't be leaking internally if the engine isn't on? I assume the 1.9cdti engine is the same as the one in the vectra, it's not the 2700 model just a short wheel base model

Bit of a difference I know but the wife's last punto was like this, turned out the water pump was the culprit.

The engine in the vivaro is a Renault unit, rather than the fiat engine in the vectra.

Get it pressure tested at a garage.

There is a Fiat!!! Engine in my Vectra !!!!!!! WTF!!! Anyone wanna buy an SRI :-)

I would remove the under engine tray (if it has one) and then park it somewhere flat. Fill it up and wait for the tell tale marks. If its only dripping slow then you may have to put some newspaper underneath - to show where the water dripped before it evaporated - and park it in a garage but you will get an idea of where the leak is if you do.

Thanks for all the advice, haha fiat engines in you vauxhall's what's in my fiat doblo van I wonder!

Any idea of cost of pressure test, had new clutch , front brakes and oil leak fixed this year, don't want to throw much more money at it, if it's a couple hundred to fix ill do that before it goes on eBay, if not it goes on there as spares / repair I guess

About an hours labour, make sure it's tested at operating temp. Could be something as simple as an oil cooler that's leaking internally, Or a header tank with a pin hole in it (Had that before on a Renault)
If it's the head gasket the van should blow out a lot of white smoke all the time.
