    Default water in passenger footwell

ok, this isn't the usual problem with the drain in the scuttle pannel being blocked. the rubber bung has been removed and ther is nothing stopping the water draining away on both sides.every time it rains i end up with a wet carpet in the passenger footwell, the water still gets it via the pollen filter (soaking wet after every shower). i've tried silicone sealant between the bulkhead and the pollen filter holder (incase the water was running off the top part of the scuttle pannel cover). it seems like there needs to be a cover over the pollen filter to stop the water getting to it but not reducing the airflow.

has anybody else had this problem? or found a soloution?
it's getting to the point of not wanting to drive in the rain because it's a pain drying out the carpets.

Hi Mate, I had this a couple of weeks ago - and like you I had removed the rubber funnel - what happened with mine was that by removing the funnel it allowed the water to run down onto the large wiring loom immediately below the drain hole and water was being wicked in to the passenger foot well - wetting the carpet and taking out the thermal fuse on the resistor pack - a couple of weeks later the fan motor started to squeak. I have replaced the rubber funnel and its sorted it now -replaced the fuse and lubricated the motor shaft.

the water is deffo getting in via the pollen filter (soaking wet behind it). it seems that as the water is draining away it's sloshing about and splashing into the pollen filter (might try and get some perspex and make a cover for the pollen filter cage.

The whole pollen filter set up is a very poor design - it seems to be angled to direct any water that does get past the scuttle grille into the car and into the heater motor - I have found my filter damp on a couple of occasions but it was definitely getting in via the wiring loom below the drain hole - I think in exceptional rain - like we have had over the last couple of months the drainage sytem can't cope and drain the water away. Can't really see how you could put anything in there to help without restricting the airflow to the filter, other than a length of guttering below the windscreen with down pipes on each wing lol.
I'm keeping an eye on mine at the moment as I don't want it to happen again - thinking about it we always seem to concentrate on the passenger side drain hole keeping that clear - I wonder if the drivers side drain gets blocked and allows water to collect if that water can run across to the passenger side with the movement of the car and cause a build up of water that gets into the heater system - I'll have a look at mine later on.

o.k. just a quick update, got some perspex and some brackets from wilko's and made a guard that sit's in front of the pollen filter on an angle and is silicone sealed at the bottom (on the angled part) of the pollen filter housing. it doesn't reduce the airflow and up to now kept the pollen filter dry. will post some pics in the next day or two.

on the right hand side i used wing nuts (so the bracket can be removed when replacing the filter) and on the left it's secured to the housing with a couple of self tappers.
