    Vehicle : Insignia Tourer

    Trim : Elite

    Engine : 2.0 CDTI (160ps)

    Year : 2010

Unhappy Just as you think life's improving, fate kicks you in the nuts...

Been trying to find out if my contract was going to be renewed at work at the end of the year for a while now and every time I asked was told basically it's being discussed by senior management and shouldn't be an issue.

Well today an email goes out to the whole company advising that a couple of permanent full time roles will be coming along shortly and guess what, one of them is my current job. After enquiring I was told that basically the contract wouldn't be being renewed but that I could of course apply for the role.

Then my boss takes me to one side and basically tells me that they are changing the required skill set for the job and that "someone internal" has those (and wording it to make it clear that it was felt I didn't). Officially he can't tell me anything of course, but basically flat out told me the job's going to someone who's already a full timer there in another department, they're just covering themselves legally by advertising it, seen it happen several times with this company already with other jobs (and my previous company for that matter).

So, having just got our finances under control and actually sleeping at night for the last few nights, I'm now worried sick again, knowing I have no more than three and a half months of employment left and need to find myself something else very quickly but also knowing I'm going to seriously struggle to find anything paying this sort of wage and that it will almost inevitably mean re-locating again (we like it in this house).

    FFS, not a happy chappy...

Anyone need a half decent, all rounder techy?

Sorry to hear that fella. On the plus side you have a few months to find the new role, so could have been worse.

Yeah, it could definitely have been worse, however the way the job market is right now I'm not confident and really worried.

I've spent the last 18 months as a Product Support Engineer working for a software company providing technical support for our products on Windows, Mac and Linux and bug testing new releases, as well as working on the new company website project.

Prior to that I was a third line IT support engineer (primarily Windows orientated) for 6 years.

2012 has pretty much been a year to forget for me on the most part. Been some good times and things happen of course, but I do seem to have had more than my fair share of bad things this year
