    Default Thinking of lowering...

I have replaced the rear dampers with B4s and changed rear control arms and front drop links.
Soon I will be putting B4s on the front.

As the car is 7 years old and done 135k I was thinking of changing the springs (fronts are still original, rears were replaced 3 years ago).
Now I wasnt after lowering the car but the price of a set of Pi springs with a lifetime warranty is half of what VX want for a set of SRi spings. And it's only a 15mm drop over the SRi.

Are the Bilstein B4s ok with 30mm lowering springs?
And do you need to do the spring sleeve mod to front lowering springs or is it only needed for VX springs???

The shocks will be fine with that drop, and when I fitted the PI springs on my old Vectra I fitted the sleeves on the front springs.

I did ask bilstein about this and they replied saying that the B4s are for standard springs. However they knwo people have added lowering springs with no problems but don't recommend it.

On here people have said that you should be ok for 30mm lowering springs (the SRi springs are already 15mm lower than standard).
Any lower and you need sports dampers that are specifically for lowering springs.

Not done mine yet, waiting for some money and need to decide to go for Pi or Eibach.

I had PI 45/40 on my old Vectra SRi with standard shocks and had no issues what so ever, so I would say SRi shocks ok, wouldn't be too confident on non-sri shocks though.

    Interesting note there Dan, thanks.

Mine are above SRi so think I might just get away with standard shocks on 35mm

    Sorry for the hijack

Ive done this several times on Sri / Gsi Vec C's. You will be fine with a 40mm drop on the Sri shocks as long as they are in good working order. Its 40mm from standard height so will actually be a 25mm drop on an Sri. Just ensure that you get the correct springs that are matched to your axle weights (on a plate inside the drivers door B pillar) as some models require different spring rates. Ive always used Eibach and found them to be an excellent balance between ride and performance
