    Default Broken Key

Doesn't seem to be anything on the forum after searching about key and reprogramming etc, which seemed odd...

So, I dropped one of my keys and the plastic casing has smashed to smithering's.

Can I buy a new key of ebay open it up and swap round the internal, meaning that I am only using the casing and thus retain all my programming etc. Or once you open it does it become weak and easily opened again.

Will I then just have to buy a new Key?

If I do buy a new Key I assume it will need tech 2'd?, but can it also be programmed using opcom/vauxcom as I know this system can be limited for some programming?

I take you are talking about the flip keys , the ones on ebay are secured together by three screws so they can be opened up and will not cause any problems .
the vauxhall ones are usually plastiwelded together so as long as you can get them apart without damaging the internals then you should not have a problem with transferring the electronics over to the new casing

Yeah, it's a flippy one. I didn't realise there were any others.

I'll look out for a screwed together one then and we'll be sorted.

There are 2 distinctly different ebay (non Vx) flip key conversion / kits available on the bay (from my own research).
One kit has no screws, has to be glued together (like the Vx one) and has a slide off battery access cover (just like Vx). This first type are "suposed" to act as replacements/refurbs for original Vx flip keys which have suffered abuse or have been dropped like yours. You will need to switch the blade & electronics from an original Vx flip key in order to make use of these and use a particularly good "glue" to assemble them.
The other/second type of "flip" fob conversion on the bay, takes your original "non flip" electronics (2 or 3 button, you need to choose) and requires a new blade cutting (they supply a blank blade, but it appears that a lot of locksmiths are unhappy to use it due to the quality of the material and it also appears to be slightly longer than it should be) for this type or the other type you can also buy a blade cut to your key code off the internet/the bay which fits the holder ok and works fine. This second type of kit assembles using 3 screws not glue but has no seperate battery cover, in other words, you will need to dis-assemble the flip to fit a new battery.
Both types of fob are similarly priced, so you will need to be careful to ensure that you are purchasing the correct type for your own needs.
Hope that helps, but a question to the seller asking if it is to convert a non flip to flip / or to refurb a genuine Vx flip, should get you the right kind of answer from any worthwhile seller.
    Cheers
