    Default Hot rear n/s wheel

Just having recently purchased my Vectra C 1.9 CDTI 2006, I have noticed a burning smell and a very hot hub on rear n/s wheel. Have taken vehicle back to seller on 3 occasions having now replaced the calliper, brake flex-hose and also rear wheel bearing hub but to my dismay I still have the same problem with the wheel getting far hotter than the off-side. Only thing we haven't done is check wheel alignment. Can anybody help in diagnosing any other problems we may not have thought of that are causing the problem. All brakes have been checked and don't appear to be sticking, and periodically along with the very hot wheel, I also get a high-pitched whine from the same wheel.

No cables have been replaced but having had so many people look at the problem, would have thought someone would have picked up on it. Are you referring to the hand-brake cable?

Have you had the rear discs replaced? If that disc is slightly warped it will cause rubbing leading to high temperatures.

No discs have been changed as yet. Someone did mention that I would notice if the discs were warped because the brake pedal would judder/vibrate???? Not sure how true this is?

If it was the front it would be much more noticeable but a slight deflection can cause all the symptoms you've mentioned but be masked by the fact that its a smaller rear disc. is there any bluing on the disc, signs of overheating?

on the rear the juddering would be felt though the actual car and seats, not the pedal.

I would jack the offending corner up so the wheel can spin freely, then turn it by hand and listen/feel for any points in which the pads binds with the disc, if its a warped disc and the problem is bad enough you should be able to hear/feel this.

Also does this wheel end up with more brake dust on it than the other side? I have always found a sticking calliper to leave loads of brake dust due to the binding and if left long enough the pads should be more worn than the other opposite wheel
