    Default Gear Box Oil Level??

Besides draining the gearbox on my cdti 150 06 estate and refilling it with the correct amount of oil, is there a quick way to check the level is sufficient from the top??

Stuck a screwdriver in through the filler and didnt touch the oil??

usually the oil is the correct level if it is level with the filler hole. But to be honest I am running on experience from BMW's so not 100% and am open to correction

The only way to be sure you have the right level is to fill it until the gear oil comes back out of the filler hole,
    Really easy.

Woah! before the OP over fills his gearbox to the max there is no level check hole on an f40 box.

The filler hole is just that....a filler hole. The only way to know how much oil is in the box is to drop the oil and refill with the correct amount unfortunately. It's only a fiver or so a litre from VX though

The revised oil level to reduce notchy changes on the f40 is 2.4 litres as opposed to the original 3.2

Erm yep, but you do not normally do any routine maintenance on it unless there is a leak or you have completed very high mileage.

Any machine that has moving metal parts that make contact with other metal parts needs oil.
