Anyone with an Irwin bolt remover want to earn a few quid getting my sump plug out?

Yeah I've gone and done what a lot of people seem to end up doing on a simple oil change.

Thought my lovely Halfrauds Advanced socket set would make light work of this routine task, but it just chewed the end up.

Must have been over-tightened at garage last time.

So if anyone is in west Yorkshire and doesn't mind bobbing around to me or me coming to them to crack it off for me shout up....Please!!!

mine did the same , i hammered on a slightly smaller 12 point socket and it came undone easy as pie, mind you it destroyed the plug so i advise you have a new one beforehand

My oil sump plug is a female Torque plug, I wonder if it has been changed at some point?

if you wanted to cover postage both ways i am more than willing to pop it in the post mate

I did the same as Jon i did try the Irwin bolt remover but they kept slipping off so just got a socket a size smaller than the bolt and tapped it on and it came off easy.

1.8's are this way Ben5on. Thinks its because our sump plugs are on the flat of the bottom of the sump, not sure if the diesels are at the back, on the side, of the sump.

Thanks for the offer mate, but I wanted to get it done this weekend so I went to Machine mart and got a set.

They didn't work unfortunately so I had to resort to the old hammer and chisel. After a few failed attempts I got a nice V shape in the bottom edge and eventually it came loose. It must have been well tightened as the hex head looked in good condition before I started. It seems strange the no spanners seem to have proper hex heads on which I gather may have prevented this from happening in the first place. I do not see why multi-points have become the norm if they are not up to the job.

Machine mart kindly exchanged the bolt removers for a Gunson eazi-bleed kit and a set of mole grips to the same value. Very decent of them I think you'll agree.

Thanks for all your help guys, next job, fuel filter. Should I just go to a dealer??? Got the filter already, but oil change was awkward enough!

It seems strange the no spanners seem to have proper hex heads on which I gather may have prevented this from happening in the first place. I do not see why multi-points have become the norm if they are not up to the job.

Easy answer is either A: use a seven sided socket OR B: use 'flank drive' spanners.

I know quite a few people scoff at useing Snap-On tools etc but they are better (Most of the time) as the tools are thicker walled etc so they dont swell so you dont end up with a 17.5 mm spanner etc or socket and also grip the edges rather than the points on the bolts.

I did my oil first then my fuel filter and that was stuck on too ended up bursting the case and had to buy a new one so since it was burst i thought i will get it open and see what it was like anyway and guess what it looked new so i waisted money for nothing lol

Just waiting for a price for a fuel filter change, any guesses? I haven't been to a main dealer for ages.
