    Default 1.9CDTi Died

    Lo folks,
After a trip to the shops tonight, got in the car (1.9CDTi 120 SRi facelift) and noticed a lack of power steering.
Turned it off and tried to restart the engine only but it won't turn over.
Traction control light is on, fuel gauge reads empty (theres £20 worth of diesel in the tank) and the computer says "F" instead of the normal 0.0 MPG for the instant consumption.

Had to call out Green Flag who tried jump starting but the battery is fine so they had to just tow me home.

    Suggestions most welcome

Give it time as the battery looses charge the dash lights will start going out etc.

sounds like the problem I had with a saab at work , unplug the ABS harness from the pump , tighten the pins in the loom plug then reconnect , this should hopefully sort it .

Not sure what you mean about tightening the pins but we've checked various plugs and attempted cleaning them up.

Still a bit confused how it could be the alternator, i was always under the impression if the alternator was dead the car could potentially still start as long as the battery had enough charge, mine currently won't even try and turn over. Turn the key and all you get is a tiny little clicking noise from the passenger side.
Dead alternator (to me at least) wouldn't explain the fuel gauge not reading any fuel and the trip computer saying "F".

Open to any suggestions/information that would correct my possible faulty understanding of alternators though.

either way it sounds like a canbus fault , do you know anyone local with opcom/vauxcom/tech2 ?
there could possibly be some clues if they plugged the car in & tried to do a module presence check .
with any luck this could point you in the right direction .

Don't know anyone. Have a family friend mechanic but hes been a bit unreliable recently and i don't have a clue if he even has access to the diagnostic stuff.
There is a local vaux dealer but that'll probably cost a fortune, will probably give the garage that sold me the car a phone tomorrow morning and go from there.
