Whirring noise persists!

Ok this is doing my nut in!! the car 19cdti 150 with climate control, it seems it's not working, when I switch A/C on I can hear no diffrence to engine tone or any noise at idle, aircon has to switched on in the menu bit on the screen, if it's switched on or not about mid revs there is a whiring noise slightly like a hammer drill is the best way to describe it, car drives fine, things I have renewed

Water pump
timing belt and tensioner and pulleys
Alternator and tensioner
glow plugs

I'm starting to think it's the compressor? have read other threads but these report the whine when air comn switched on? so not sure now and pretty fed up with it

Any advice!

I guess I should have run it with aux belt removed but sure the new Alternator today would solve the noise

Thanks for that, all opinions welcome, when I get a chance think I will remove aux belt see if that stops the noise
