    Default Cambelt

    Vectra C 2006 (06) 1.8 VVT (Z18XER) >54,000 miles

    Hi all

My Vectra “main service” is coming up, and it got me thinking about the cambelt, which is stated at 100,000 miles or 10 years.

My question is that does the water pump and pulleys (for this engine) hold out for that length of time, or should I think about getting it done early (at say 60,0000 miles)?

    Regards

I have the same engine in my astra and changed the cambelt & waterpump @ 49,000 i personally would get it done at your main service ( would deffo NOT leave it until 100,000 ) and would have the waterpump done as you have to remove everything to access it anyway.

And its usually a worn/siezed water pump that breaks the belt anyway !

Defo get water pump done, belt done at 80k and pump went 20k later, for price of the pumps I'd do it every main service for the time it takes.

The 1.8 VVTi water pump is not driven by the cambelt.

As to 100K / 4 years - your choice. I still have not done mine at 96K , but I will - honest

everyone gets mixed up with this , the old 1.8 used the cambelt to drive the water pump and if it seized then the belt would go also and screw the engine up but on the 1.8vvt the cambelt dont drive the water pump and i am not changing my cambelt untill it gets to at least 85,000

    as said above

The 1.8 VVTi water pump is not driven by the cambelt.

i changed my non vvti 1.8 at 60000 because my waterpump started to leak so i changed the waterpump and cambelt kit ie pulleys because mine is driven of the cambelt

its best to safe than buy new valves or head or even new engine

I didn't change my cam belt on a Laguna some years ago, and the engine just quietly stopped one day.
It cost £400 to fix !
    Tow truck job
4 bent exhaust valves, head skim and a new gasket, timing belt and tensioners !!!
It didn't even snap, it just ripped three teeth off the belt.
It really f***ed up my day !
    Just do it mate.

If it's original it's due on the 4 year interval anyhow.

    Hi all

Many thanks, the Exhaust is now coming off, so that might have to be replaced

As its not drive by the waterpump I might leave it until its next service.
