    Default Port and polishing 2.0T?

    Hi Guys,

My car is in the local garage getting the cam chain replaced. I got a phone call to say that im very lucky!!!. I took it in because the chain was very rattly, so they stripped it down and found a bolt had sheared off and it was the collar that sits around the bolt that was rattling. The other thing thats happened is, one of the lower chain guides had snapped and looks like most of it ended up in the sump.

So to get the bolt drilled out, it looks like the heads going to have to come off which got me thinking of having ported and polished at the same time. So, can anyone recomend somebody to do this? name? number price? In the future im looking to get a TD04, bigger fuel pump/injectors and remapped. Was also thinking while the cams are out, I might get them reprofiled, again can anyone recomend someone?

    Regards

    Jim

just buy different cams from a saab place like neos, much cheaper and perfect for the car.. you can get it ported and polished but you would also need to get your inlet and exhaust manifold done as well, there is a bigger exhaust manifold that would be a better option.. porting and polishing is mainly seen on n/a road cars and will cost you a lot of money and see you little gains.. Its a turbo engine, just get a bigger turbo, much more bang for your buck..

bummer, thats the access hole to the chain guide bolt, looks like part of the chain guide is still there as well... surely a stud extractor guy could do that in situ

The thought where the access to get a drill in and straight looks tight but this could be lifted with a trolley jack and maybe undoing an engine mount to give us the lift.

also the thickness of the stud (look around 5-6 mil thick) to be removed and get a stud extractor in. another thing is the swarf flying around and landing somewhere dangerous,

Im going on holiday for a week this weekend so ill have a look at doing when we get back one night during the week.

Id rather try this as opposed to going the £1000 ish total of having the head off itto get it out.

    Thanks for the reply Nige.

Could I ask also, when you got your turbo hybrid', did you just need to get a bigger compression wheel (16) to replace the (14) or was their anyo other parts to upgrade the turbo itself.
As Ieve said im looking at getting the rest of the parts, injectors pump etc but wanted to know more about the turbo hybrid process. any numbers/prices would be greatful.

    Regards

I uograded the chra as well from an L to an HL. TBH its best to use an established upgrade kit like Maptun provide so you get maps and support. At the time I started doing mine I went with a saab aero stage 5 but am now at a stage 6. They do more specific vectra /signum stages now.

The head is now off. Had a good look at drilling it out in situ but, it just wasnt possible due to the size if the bolt to be drilled out and access. Its getting sent to a local specialist once stripped down.

Whilst its off, the inlet and exhaust ports will be matched. I was thinking of having the valve oil seals replaced at the same time but, as the old saying goes "if it aint broke.....".

As for cams as suggested, im at a bit of a crossroads:

I want to get some cams from Neo Brothers (Thanks very much Nige for the recomendation) and fit them now but, they would'nt need mapping in?.

    Or

Wait and get bigger cams and a TD04-16HL turbo plus all the other bits like the fuel injectors/pump etc. but this of course is down to money which I cannot budget for at the moment because of taking the head off.

Basically I want to do as much as I can whilst the head is off.

Nige, did you get all the turbo components from Neo Brothers? If not could you supply links and prices if poss please.

Thanks for the link Rushy, some very useful info on there.

Thanks for all your help and suggetions

    Jim

Hmmmm not really thought about figures to be honest. May well just stick with getting the turbo as this is what I had originally thought of doing.
