    confused Oil Level warning light

The yellow oil level warning chose to illuminate on the way to work today - I was on the motorway when it came on.

I knew it to be false as I regularly check the level, there was no rise in temp/smoking/banging/ loss of power so I carried on to work.

On arrival I let it cool and checked the level it was fine, the light never came back home on the way home.

I guess I am now a fully fledged member of the forum as I have had my first electrical gremlin.

There's no such thing as an oil level light - it's for the oil pressure, which is far more critical. Don't ignore it.

According to my handbook the yellow oil can is the oil level warning light - not to be confused with the red one which should go out during cranking.

I wouldn't have ignored it either way , i check my oil very regularly but if I got a warning on the dash saying my oil is low then I would be stopping to find out .
there are plenty of things that can go wrong & empty the oil from the engine pretty quickly .
just lucky for you that it was an electrical gremlin & not a genuine lack of oil .

Me too. Had one on my 53 reg Elegance as well as one on my current 06 Elite. I thought it was a standard warning light on the Vectra-C models as well as the oil pressure warning light?

This used to keep happening on my old Signum (54 reg). When I checked I usually found that the oil level was OK. I'm sure that I found that it was a known 'feature' of certain models. I believe there is a redesigned dipstick or some such replacement to sort this out and that it might even be a free replacement item. Anyway once I found that it didn't mean my Signum was about to expire I stopped worrying about it and never bothered to investigate further.
