    Default 2.2 DTI performance

    Hey guys,

I bought my Siggy about 2 weeks ago now. Moving from a VW Golf GT TDI (130bhp) and i have to say that i'm a little suprised at the lack of power the DTI seems to have.
Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's the big increase in weight that does it, but going from a 1.9L to 2.2L turbo diesel I was expecting the performance level to be similar, but it's just not in the same league.

I'm definetly more concerned with fuel economy (doing 24k miles a year), but moving from a rather nippy 65MPG golf to the 46MPG-ish Signum, which can be described as nothing other than sluggish, it's a bit of a bummer. when it's up to speed it's fine, but accelleration is rubbish.

maybe i'm just expecting the moon on a stick, it is a LOT bigger after all....which is what I needed in the first place.

What BHP are the 2.2DTI's? are there any must-do performance tweaks that I can carry out?

Can you normally feel the turbo kicking in? I certainly could in the golf.

    Hi jammy -c
performance wise if your siggy is running correctly you should expect around 123 BHP , So you wont be inpersonating jenson button any time soon .
the secret to keeping these engines buzzing is to drop a bottle of redex injector cleaner into your tank on every third or forth fill up especially if you do a lot of town driving .
Treat her to an italian service once a week to blow out the cobwebs , apart from that another little mod is to remove the lower cone in your airbox this will allow better air filter use .

lower cone, eh? will have to try that. I assume it's pretty straight-forward, is it? Is there a How 2? how long should it take?

i've read on here that adding 2-stroke oil at each fill-up is a great way to boost smoothness, noise, economy and performance. I'm planning on giving that a go.

What's all the DPF delete stuff i've been reading about? does it work on a 2.2DTI and is it worth it?...

    hi jammy
First up the good news The Dti dont have a dpf so no worries there .
The cone mod is straight forward and may well be allready done just lift up the air filter and where the air comes into the filter there may or may not be a cone if it has just give it a good yank and it will come out .
as for 2 stroke oil yes it improves the general running of the engine by lubricating the fuel pump it also helps to clean some components like the egr and the inlet manifold but its best not to over do this as if to much is put into the tank then the engine can not handle it and it will have the opposite effect .

K&n filters on the Dti,s will give you a very small increase in bhp . they will give you a small gain in excelleration but generally is hardly noticeable the main gain in these filters is financial as long as you hang onto the car obviously , But at around £40 you would have to keep it for several years to see any benefit

Thanks, I read 250-300ml per tank full.

Not really mate. Had one in my 2.2 petrol, made no difference! You can map or box them to about 145 bhp, although it will be the increase in torque you will notice more. The 150 1.9 CDTI is quicker out of the box and maps to 180 bhp. Although I think the 2.2 DTI will feel much better after a map.

I work about 45miles from Home, so around 90 miles per day, plus whatever at a weekend.
The Majority is A-roads, cruising at 55-60mph. (i'd say about 80% of the journey), the remaining 20% is town.
