What engine oil for 2.2DTI?

Euro car parts say 5W30 fully synthetic, but the service book shows that the garage has been putting in 10W40 for the past 5 years.

my mate uses 10w40 and his garage. if i was you i would use 5w40 ester fully syn.

5w30 is what vx use. but a 5w30 is for economy where's a 5w40 is thicker so would protect better.

Well, I really need as good economy as possible, doing 24,000 miles per year. i'm happy to do an oil service more regularly than normal if required. What is the service interval for these engines?

always used 10/40 for all my dti's... think 5/30 is a tad too thin for them

10/40 seams a bit quieter but I use 5:30 fully as it's free from my work lol and it's top quality oil

I use 10/40 semi in mine, When i had mine serviced at vx for the first 4 years they used 10/40.

For the last 5 years ive been using 10/40 semi and it keeps the engine quiet too.

I also change the oil every 5k, mileage now on 116k.

So, is 5W30 better for economy in any way? and how often does vx suggest an oil change? I was thinking every 6k miles (4 times a year) or is that a bit much? I want to prolong turbo life.
also, is there any specific brand you guys can recommend, or will halfords own do the job? (i have a trade card and it works out cheap cheap cheap!)
