    Default Air filter cleaning

This may be a daft question. but, how do you clean a K&N panel filter? Is it just a case of rinsing it under a tap, or do I need special cleaning stuff? Also, what is this air filter oil spray people keep mentioning?

You need some special cleaning fluid, or a good oil and grease remover. Spray it on and leave it for an hour or so. Flush from the clean (throttle) side to the dirty (open air) side, otherwise you just drive dirt into the filter. Then dry thoroughly overnight. Then LIGHTLY oil it and allow the oil to work in.

or an old trick is to fill a bucket with red hot water and add a fair amount of good washing up liquid, and then soak the filter in that for about half an hour, then give it a good flapping about in the bucket, then rinse clean, leave to dry, then re-oil....sorted

Although it should probably be pointed out that the link I posted earlier gives full step by step cleaning and re-oiling instructions and states very clearly...

The above process is the only approved procedure for maintaining your K&N Air Filter

I spray a light coating of petrol on the filter and set light to the vapours. The flames burn all the dirt off.

    Not really.
