I hear they cancelled the celibrations up in Edinburgh due to the weather.
Larisa,s daughter and her bloke drove from Reading.....yes Reading up to Edinburgh for the "party" but as I hear it was cancelled, then they had to drive back again, I felt sorry for them [and every one else that was there], to travel all that distance for an event that was called off, must have been really foul weather up there, if it was like the rain on the M6 on our way back form the "Drinky" meet, I can understand why it was called off. One night in the year and the "only" place to let in the new year and the weather was cr4p.

No they could not get anywhere to stop, had to drive back home... don,t suppose they could have adrink either having to drive, felt quite sorry for them and everyone else come to that. Edinburgh is the new year capital of the world, and all those people were disapointed. Let down by the weather. [british weather............we we take the blame for it "eh"]

I live in Edinburgh and can confirm that the weather was pretty vile last night. At around 20:00, the automatic weather info service at the airport was reporting a mean wind speed of over 50 knots, gusting to 67 knots - if I've remembered that correctly.

This time, I don't think the authorities over-reacted in curtailing the event as there was a strong possiblilty of people being injured. Unfortunately, I think the worst of the weather arrived at exactly the wrong time for the celebrations. Although the New Year event is not really my 'thing' I felt really sorry for all those who had travelled a long way to see in the New Year here in Jockland.

tbh with the predictions of weather that we were to get maybe edinburgh left it too late to cancel as glagow, stirling etc all cancelled earlier.

I stay about 10-15 miles out of edinburgh and can confirm the wind was horrendous. When i was setting out to pub at 8pm there was a tree down near me my wheelie bin blew past me and it almost putting me off my feet with big gusts and i'm 15 stone! Coupled with the driving rain it wasnt nice.

Sorry to hear of the couple making that journeythough ed. Have attended the party in edinburgh many times and it is an amazing night when its on
