    stripped it down today cleaned egr again and removed the housing it bolts to and the housing below that , where the butterfly flaps thingys are ,and they are spotless , rebuilt and tested , still the same , me thinks this car is going to the auctions , had enough of it now .

    well its time for my car to go to garage to try and see what is matter with it , will post the outcome . i went to trade it in over the weekend , and was offered between 1250 and 1600 , so if its the pump its going to be scrapped .

    well its there , see what they find , it didnt start overwell , it was missing a bit in slow traffic , once on the moors i booted it , missed about 12 times in 28 miles ,it went well , the garage offered me 1500 trade in , is that about right for a 05 with 69k on clock .

    Just a thought m8 & apologies if you have allready checked this. Just clutching at straws, but when you cleaned the EGR did you remove the grey plastic cover & made sure the little actuating cam was free? I cleaned mine a few months ago & i got error codes because some grit had gone into this area causing the valve mechanism to stick.

    A clean in that area & a little bit of grease on the cam put it right.

    as above bud i always clean the cam and shaft when i clean mine,also have you made sure the inside of the exhaust manifold is not blocked with carbon,you will be amazed how much crap builds up if it hasn't been cleaned before.

    thanks for reply , yes i took the grey plastic cover off and cleaned the cam , all seems to be clean , garage got back to me today , had it connected to diagnostic machine they are saying the miss fire is happening so quick machine cant pick it up ,one thing i did do , i connected the 2 vacuum pipes together on the front panel so the car went into limp mode , and drove it around , no turbo boost , but never missed a beat , spanner was lit up strange or what .

    well its been 3 weeks now since i got car back from garage ,ive put 2 lots of forte injection cleaner in upto now , and it runs ok when i put the cleaner in , it starts off the key on a morning , ive been putting 15 pounds of diesel in then a bottle of cleaner , runs for ages before it misses , i can put up with it like that for now , and no codes are present , and the light aint been on . more news later .

    This sounds like the solonoid valve on the vacuum system for opening and closing the egr-valve is going dodgy, causing the egr valve to open to much, this causing to much exhaust to enter inlet manifold - thus choking engine.

    When the solonoid valve fails completely and sticks fully open, the engine will start up and then immedeately choke and cut off.
