    Default Turbo Fail????

    Hi Guys,

So I just bought my first Vectra, a 05 SRI 120. It has until now made a kind of hissing whistle that can be heard as it hits 2000 ish rpm. Anyway as of today it made a kind of jolt while driving then got nosier. It now make a "distant police car sound" when sat still and revving the engine. The aux belt returns to normal speed and the sound continues to wind down so I am pretty sure its noise from the turbo.

On the front near the slam panel is a little Vac Valve and I have removed both these pipes and it still does it. I only have to rev a little to get the noise to start (less than 1500). The harder I rev the longer and louder it is.

I did clean the MAP sensor a few days ago but have no fault indications even now and if I disconnect it I get a fault so it seems ok.

I am not sure if its a blown pipe or a blown turbo but would appreciate any help or suggestions.

I have disconnected the large pipe that connects the inter cooler to the manifold and it has a thin layer of oil on its inner surface but this was there before the incident which made it noisy so not sure if this is normal or maybe relevant.

    Please help me :-)

Id say sounds like s split boost hose. Check all hoses from the turbo to the cooler then to the intake manifold

Thanks for the reply. I hope it is something this simple. I have checked all the hoses I can see and can't see any damage. Maybe I need to get underneath. Without a Haynes to tell me whats what its dificult to know which pipes I should check.

Anyway the noise is identical to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoGm_1tK0kk

Lots of oil in the pipes is normal due to the crank case vent.

If it makes the noise with the vacuum hose disconnected then it is less likely to be the turbo and more likely to be an exhaust leak.
Turn on the car when it is cold and feel around the trubo manifold and the egr valve to see if there are any exhaust leaks.
These could come from a blown gasket, cracked manifold, split pipes in the EGR system.

    Does it still drive normally?

Mine still drives as it always has since having it. This would be a little under powered in my opinion till about 2000 rpm then a real pick up after that. This could be normal as I am downsizing from a 3.0 bmw which was rapid.

This noise has not been a gradual thing it was fine and then loud during the same drive and instantly. It wasn't like the noise has got worse over days or gradually faded in while driving.

If I disconnect both the hoses connected to the slam panel solenoid it makes no difference to the sound that you hear when just revving the engine, I still get the noise in the above video. I haven't tried it under load / while driving.

I removed the EGR to see how bad it was and this was the result

Anyway I cleaned it up and refitted but still the same noise so leak is unlikely to be there. I am going to get it up on jacks on sunday and check all the pipes and I am going to do as this thread suggests and see if I can cure the under powered feeling below 1500rpm http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...ght=boost+hose (anyone interested will have to read from about page 12 onwards)

Heres hoping I find a leak as other than the noise and a bit of hesitation under 1500 it drives well with no smoke

Thanks for all the responses everyone I appreciate all of your time

    James
