Default Rip Off Britain - BBC1 _ Vauxhall

Was getting ready for work this morning and was watching any old rubbish, when they started mentioning Vauxhall and that this women had brought a diesel zafira, she had the same problem every 11 months with the same part.

Can you guess what part on a diesel............ yeah that's right the good old EGR valve. First time she had it replaced under warranty but after that she had to pay for the repairs, at one point she was charge £971 god knows what was replaced, so every year the same fault happens and vauxhall tell her its the EGR, this went on for 4 years, vauxhall even told her it was the way she was driving that caused the problem. In the end with her making complaints and reporting vauxhall they offered to replace her engine but she had to pay 10% towards it (£391) to their credit they also refunded her the £971. The program even interviewed the AA and they said the increase in EGR related calls has gone up.

Faulty EGR valves necessitated an engine change? Wonder why she didn't just get it blanked and mapped out?

Oh good grief, EGR valve forces engine change,,,,,,
Obviously she needs to give it an "Italian Job" road test every now and again

But Vauxhall parts and workmanship are covered for 12 months, so if it happened 11 months after it was replaced, it should have all been done FOC!!

Wouldn't be surprised if they wriggled out by saying it was "unrelated" or not covered. It's the dealers, NOT the cars that gives VX it's "looked down on" status

That's what she was trying to fight with vauxhall. the first time the EGR was replaced under warranty with the purchase of the car, but when it broke after 11 months a diffrent vauxhall garage said it wasn't covered under the 12 month parts warranty because it was replaced under the other warranty, basically trying to get out of it and that's when they hit her with the £971 bill, which is probably why they gave it back in the end because it should have been done under warranty.

Be interesting to know what mileage she was doing and the type of driving urban/motorway.
I would hazard a guess that she was sold a diesel when she should have really brought a petrol.

if wanted it for short runs then she should have got it mapped out for £200, problem solved as mentioned before in the post

Not on warranty claims it is not
The part is replaced and is only covered by a 12 month warranty
That is clearly stated in the Warrany Terms & Conditions

I had a similar argument over a failed boot lock that failed, replaced under warranty, and then failed again

If something is replaced under warranty then it is only covered up to the end of the warranty. I believe if you pay 10% of the cost it will then be covered for 12 months.

Maybe they should have replaced the engine for a petrol engine
