Alternator problem ?

Signum wouldn't start on Saturday night and symptoms seemed to be alternator related as power steering was failing as I parked up (it then wouldnt restart).
Bumped it the next morning and seemed to be running OK but with some sporadic electrical gremlins. Parked on a hill over Sunday and again bumped it this morning. Took it a local Halfords autocentre where they quoted me 448 to supply and fit or `another 50 if we need to take the aircon pipe out to get to it´
Found another Indi Vx place who quoted 298 to supply and fit. Went back to Halfords picked up the key and said Id pick the car up later and sort something else out with it. Went to pick the car up from their car park after work and they had closed, intending to bump it but there was no power at all, no int lights, nothing.
I thought they may have disconnected the battery for some reason but they hadn't. Any idea what they may have done to it that would result in no electrics at all ?

Sounds as though your battery has completely drained - had they left a light on or anything that would have caused it to drain. Did they check the battery and alternator when you first took it there
