well, the skoda is also lighter so that will help it's cause, i mean, my father in law hsa a ren-noooo megane 19dci and is getting 52 MPG out of it, but it's made of cardboard and is as reliable as a damp cornflake.. we have a 150CDTi in the family and it does worst of high 30's to an alltime crusing best of 50.1 mpg..but that was a one-off, most of the time it's nearer 48..and it's an Auto..

if it's not smoking like a whatsit, then it's not overfuelling..only if you're doing a lot of urban should it be down that low IMO

    dont trust the computer
youll have to fill the tank then drive 200 miles the refill then see what you have used
you may find that you are doing more

the fuel supply is controlled by a number of factors, so there is no one sensor you can 'cheat'.. And as there is no such thing as a choke on these fiesels i don't think thats the cause either..

it just sounds like it's more a factor of the weight of the car and it's usage..rather than the fuelling as if it didn't smoke then the fuelling won't be far wrong..
