Default Rattle from back of engine?

    (Z19DT 08MY)

Developed a rattle recently, seems to be coming from the back of the engine, but I cant tell if its (hopefully) (just) the alternator or worse-case something to do with the timing belt area? (Belt/Pump replaced 10k ago)

Its more obvious at idle, like the engine drops in power slightly, but as soon as you touch the gas pedal, it sort of disappears (probably behind engine noise) and becomes a slight vibration... that picks up with the revs.

Now, I've JUST (less than 1k miles) had the clutch, flywheel slave cylinder blah blah replaced... could it be faulty??? When I let the clutch in, it rumbles and the engine becomes a fair bit louder.

I also noticed that when I do press the gas, the lights dim slightly then pick up again, is that normal? (Battery replaced less than 100miles ago). At last check battery was 12.5v and just over 14v when running.

What checks are there that I can do without taking the car apart to count things out? Check DMF, Alternator etc...

Any other ideas what could cause a rubble/rattle in the engine bay? I've read about bottom end knocking, can I count that out?

This car is starting to do my head in, went diesel to save money, I've spent loads more than I would have on my 2.0T even with the fuel costs so far!

It also makes a knocking noise that's most evident when switching off...

DMF noise should be coming from the passenger side of the engine bay, rather than the rear.

The noise is more obvious from the passenger side when in the car and just sounds like the back of the engine from the engine bay. The clutch dmf etc was replaced by mr clutch so i never saw any of the old bits just the bill at the end! Lol

Its going back on thursday to be looked at and hopefully i'll know one way or the other.
