    Default I gotta rant....again

This should probably be added to the poor VX dealers list, but I can't believe these guys are so incompetent, Ijust gotta rant again

Evans Halshaw Nottingham, had major problems with my car since I bought it 2 years ago, its been in 11 times for coolant leaks, the last time was for 2 months while they replaced the head. Now the air conditioning condenser needs replaing, the poly v belt pulleys and the flywheel....none of which is likely to be covered under the extended warranty I bought.

On top of that, went in for a service today, got all the paper work when I collected it, and I found out that they don't even do simple things like change the air filter as part of their service - I thought that was a pretty standard thing, nor do they check glow plugs.

One thing they do do is check tyre pressures. Picked it up, front tyre was flat (which it wasn't when I dropped it off) Even though it was ticked on the sheet, the mechanic told me he hadn't checked the pressures because he couldn't get my anti-theft valve caps off (allen key for it was in the car, right next to the locking wheel bolt) THere was a nail in the tyre which I got the dealer to fix free of charge.

Got home, they've not even stamped the service book!

I've got to say, these guys just don't seem to be able to do any task with a full level of competency. I'll never buy a car from Evans Halshaw again, and will be looking elsewhere for servicing from now on!

    Sorry, rant over now.

When you have a car serviced at a garage, they make sure they don't replace anything that was only supposed to be replaced at the previous service or the next one, not this particular service, no matter how cheap the part or how easy to fit. Once reason why a main dealer service isn't as thorough as one done by a competent and meticulous owner IMHO - I replace everything at every service.

I was talking to lad at the hull show. He was from vxro and had his tuned astra serviced by a vx dealer. He asked for iridium spark plugs they said no problem. Picks his car up a few weeks later the tip of spark plug broke off and wrecked his engine. They put standard plugs in and not what he asked. He showed me pics of the internals it didn't look good and vx won't pay.

Went to have a look at a mitsubishi warrior twin cab at evans halshaw phoned them up and asked about it said it was in top condition, booked a test drive the following day got their to find a fookin great dent in the back where somebody had reversed into a post.

If they had told me that in the first place wouldnt of bothered driving the 30mile to look at it.

Went once before also to look at a vectra estate ended up being their 4hrs while they fooked around on the computer and doing px prices etc.

I agree completely - do your own servicing - you know its been done properly - its a fraction of the price and while your doing it its an ideal opportunity to have a good look around and check other parts and the general condition of the car - a garage will charge you £100 for an interim service and all they do is change the oil and oil filter. The only thing you don't get is a stamp in the service book - I keep all my receipts and do a service sheet at each service and put it in a folder for the car that can be shown to any prospective buyer.

to be fair, they're pretty pointless, all you need is a small allen key (something i would expect a main dealer's tool box to have). I only got them because they were £3 off fleabay and they have the griffin badge in them

It's an unfortunate trend as far as I can see, I had a cavalier Mk3 from What was WASS (Wallace Arnold) now Evans H. Couldn't fault them until they changed ownership, same with my last VX (signum) bought from what was New Crown Sharpes -, now they are Pentagon and it's the same sorry tale. It seems that as soon as they become (or are bought out by) one of the big ones everything turns to the proverbial brown stuff. One of the reasons I didn't get another Vx after mine was stolen - I just couldn't face dealing with these clowns for the next three years.

Keep Smiling it's the only thing to keep you sane
