    confused Sat nav queries

Keep getting lost when Im trying to find new places to go fishing so have been thinking about getting a sat nav..

Question is do I go for one that sticks on the screen or anything inbuilt?..tbh would prefer inbuilt but dont have a clue what im looking for.

    Any help would be appreciated..

cd 70 looks great but its rubbish not having post codes,l know some older map discs do have it but i like to have roads shown if they exist,i've also got a tomom but map updates are just too expensive.

    Default

Some new Sat navs have free updates for life, will also have a built in battery so can use then walking around.

    Or

You can have sat nav apps on most Smart phones

I've just started using the NCDC2013 that came fitted in my "new" preface 2004 Gsi and a new disk from German ebay site cost me £40 (although if you are fairly "clued up" you can download the stuff from various places). The new disk doesn't allow postcode entry or real time traffic information though which my TomTom does.
New maps for TT units are expensive but only really compared to the cost of a new unit, apart from that map updates from most satnav suppliers are similarly priced unless you use the units provided by the likes of Vx/BMW/VAG/etc when they are REALLY expensive.
I'm sure that I read an advert for one of the satnav supliers recently that gave you free lifetime map updates with certain new models so look out for that and do your homework.
If you go for one of the combined radio/dvd/mp3/satnav units be aware that most of the bottom end priced units provide you with a long john silver version of the mapping, no problem really until a couple of years down the road when you might want a new map.
Hope that helps confuse you further LOL
    Cheers
    Woody
