Default Downsides and risks to remapping

What are the honest opinion downsides/risks to remapping the 1.9 cdti guys? Besides obviously the cost lol
im a bit nervous about messing with an already 'delicate' engine according to most people on here,
Admittidly I've had no problems in a years driving my signum though

Also note that mines an auto

Im up for anything that makes the bug gar drive smoother and not like a tank

My experience is that the 1.9 is not 'delicate'. I have been running a remap for almost 5 years without any additional issues. Sure my swirl rod is off and swirl pots 1, 2 and 4 are glued open but whether I had remapped or not would almost certainly have ended in the same result. The car goes like stink, does not burn oil or use water and returns over 50MPG. My remap is a BSR one which are noted for their high boost figures. My engine has handled this without incident for many 10s of thousands of miles now. Having said all that, there are no guarantees and yes there is extra strain on the engine.

i found the major downside after a remap was getting those extra lines on your face 'cos you are always smiling.get it done and get the dpf mapped out then removed.

I ran my first soggy 1.9 150 on a caterman box for 3 year with no issues at all. Then ran my second one on a green dtuk box for nearly 2 year and no issues. Still got the green box if your interested.
got to say they drive much better with a box or mapped.

Dpf will clog up or melt if not removed.
    Dmf will take more punishment.
And the problems that I've personally had was an exhaust stud snapping due to increased heat, then a month later the turbo manifold cracked due to increased heat.

Have now removed part of the undertray and cut out the top grill for more air flow

Oh and I go through tyres a lot quicker!

You also go through more fuel depending on your remap, (even driving with CC on at legal speeds)
Another factor that you will have to consider is shorter oil change intervals due to increased soot content in the oil, I change mine every 5k (costs around £25 to do it yourself with a genuine filter, sump plug washer and genuine vauxhall 5w30 fs oil at trade prices)
Some might say 5k is overkill, but it's a lot cheaper than fitting a new engine or rebuilding it

May I also add that I am running a crd-t tuning box rather than a remap (it's not far off a generic remap) and it's on the setting that's *meant* to produce 215bhp, So a lower state of tune probably won't have the heat issues and shouldnt increase the spot content in the oil as quickly.
