    Default Adjusting tailgate stops... hatcback

    Hi chaps,

Been starting stage 2 of my de-rattling project to try to make my car feel a little less old and knackered... Stage 1 was very successful and involved fitting the correct ARB bushes, replacing the shockers and also the upper control arms.

Tried today to fix 2 rattles at the back of the car... One was simple (shove a piece of foam in a 40 piece socket set!) the other is being a bit of a pain...

If I grab the boot spoiler (got an Irmy copy fitted) and wiggle it, the boot lid rattles up and down and makes a very annoying noise.

I've tried to adjust the rubber stops protruding on either side from the boot lid, but nothing seems to work. Thought they were like the bonnet stops (the ones you unscrew to make longer and tighter) but they don't seem to do anything!

What am I missing here? Are they supposed to unscrew to hold the hatch firmly to the body?

    Cheers guys...

Right when you look at the bump stop you will see a big nut shaped piece near the bottom

Also on the nut shaped piece is a mark like a little triangle
On the base below the nut shaped bit will be 2 little marks like triangles , the mark on the nut shape bit will line up with one of the other marks
What you need to do is rotate the nut shaped bit so it lines up with the other mark on the bottom using a.large adjustable spanner
This then unlocks the buffer piece which you can then move in or out to what position you require

NOTE IT DOESN'T UNSCREW YOU HAVE TO MOVE IT IN AND OUT MANUALLY .....BUT DON'T PULL IT ALL THE WAY OUT AS ITS A PAIN TO PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER

(yes I meant to use capitals to make a point )

Once you have it set correctly rotate the nut piece back to the original mark thus locking the buffer piece in place

    HTH

    Mate you're a star!

Was looking at that plastic "nut" and was wondering about turning it but didn't want it all to fall apart!

Thanks so much, going to sort this now!
