Default Help Needed In Guildford Area How To Replace Dials???

    Hi All

I recently got a custom made set of dials for my 2006 Vec and was going to have a go at changing them over myself.

I have now heard that swapping them over can be a pain in the ar*e and that it is a complete nightmare to get all the needles back where there supposed to be when replacing them. This has now completely put me off attempting it myself and I was wondering if there is anyone in the Guildford area that is competent and confident enough to do it for me. I'm willing to pay you a few quid for the work and your time....

Please pm me if anyone could be my night in shining armour

    Cheers

Its not as bad as all that ,you might have to try a couple of times to get the pointers exactly right .

Its an easy swap. You just replace the needles at the start point on each gauge, there is no guess work involved.

Is the bloke who normally does bits and pieces on my motor talking out of his backside then? (which is quite possible!!) he said that the needles are on a type of spring which unwinds when you remove the needles, thus making it very very bad to try and put them back on.

According to him even Vauxhall are reluctant to remove the dails and are happier to just replace the whole binacle?

Is he talking poo! or has he just got his Vectra mixed up with something else?

I,m sure we just gently pulled them up and off,no great dramas at all ,all you must remember is not to be tempted to turn them if they are a little bit out ...lift and pull and replace ..

The Cavalier was like this, sort of. The needle for the speedo started at 10mph and it actually sat on a bump stop, making it hard to get it right. But when I swapped the fascia, rings and needles from a GSi to my 1.8LS clocks it was easy as pie.

    Heres the how2.

Replacing the needles is dead easy, just put them back on exactly as they came off, there's no drama's of the splines spinning when you remove them, I did it a few times when I swapped the smds to white.
