    Default slave cylinder

Hi guys i hope you can help...

I have a 53 plate vec-c 2.0 dti sxi and all of a sudden a week ago it just came to a stop :-( it wouldnt go into gear the pedal was light as a feather to push. so i takes it to a garage and they advised me that its the slave cylinder in the clutch..

Anyway i asked him how much and the response was between £350-£800. Now at this point as u can imagine my face dropped so hard.. i asked him why the such big price gap and not a deff price and he replied there are a possible 3 types of slave cylinder in the 2.0 dti and untill it is stripped down thats the only price he could give...

Now i know vx can be a damn right, chewy, horrible motor at times but surely this cant be correct, can it?

Anyway i was wondering if that is the only way to find out about slave cylinder or is there anither way? see i thought the gearbox code gave me all info i needed for parts or am i wrong??

also what is the average price paid for this?

    I hope someone can help...

    Thanks
    mick

The £800 price will be if the clutch fluid has contaminated the fiction plate so will need to be replaced also.
