Default Alternator possibly packed up again

    Hi guys

My alternator was replaced in May this year.

Today the charging light came again (like last time), so I suspect alternator again. Took it to the garage, bloke there said vectra seem to eat their alternators.

Would the alternator be covered under warranty? It just been 3 months.

I just would not like to spend 300+ quid again

Was it a new alternator or a recon? New ones should carry a 12 month warranty, recons may be less.

It was brand new alternator. Maybe it did not break down, maybe something wrong with the belt? But again power steering was still fine - running from the battery I guess.

Check with the garage who fitted it, you may get a replacement alternator, but be expected tp pay for it to be changed?? Best of luck.

Thanks Ben. Yeah took it to same garage, they have record, that it was changed. I hope that I would have to pay only labour, as I think alternator should be covered with warranty of some kind.

Check the voltage at the battery with the engine running, the vectra's are notoriously fussy about alternators, so it may be working fine, just the light that has come on. As Ben50n says yes it will be covered by a warranty, but this is where you will find out if the garage fitted a new one or just a reconditioned one and charged you new alternator prices.

Would the supplying company, or manufacturer, not be liable for that charge?

Most garages swallow the labour cost as it can be very difficult to get the labour charges back from the manafacturer whereas the part cost is easier to claim back, the odd garage may try and get you to pay towards the labour but refuse to pay as its down to the garage to recover all costs

thanks guys, still waiting for the garage to phone me. Thanks for moving this topic.

if it is the alternator, I hope I will not have to argue about warranty repair, it is one of Bosch garages, so hopefully they will be OK.
Today I supposed to go and get a motorbike, if this going to cost me anything, goodbye to the bike, ehh se la vie

Got some update, alternator is fine.

Battery is knackered, in really bad state. New battery going to be fitted at cost of 100.35, they going to check if charging is working fine, for any faults.
Regarding warranty, owner of the garage I just spoke to said, he would replace alternator without any charge - so there are still decent car mechanics out there
