Got car booked in this weekend for MOT with Vauxhall (dont ask why but always passes) my question is the only mod i have is after market HID bulbs, which have gone through 2 mots with same garage (vauxhall) but i have heard rumours that this year the law has changed what i want to know is

    1. is this correct?
    2. will i get away with them (they the 6000k)
    3. if it does fail can i try the old well i bought this car from you and it was sold to me like this, AND ITS ALWAYS PASSED PREVIOUSLY

It should fail because they aren't legal however there is a very good chance the tester will not notice. If it fails just bung the halogen bulbs back in for your free retest.

    Vehicle : Vauxhall Astra-J

    Trim : Elite

    Engine : 2.0 CDTi

    Year : 2013

I asked the tester prior to having mine MOTd back in June at a Vx dealership.

Basically he said if they're not too blue, they point in the right direction and pass the beam test, he cannot fail them.

If however they did fail, just do what people do with illegal number plates, etc. i.e. go home, fit standard H7 halogens back in and come back for a free retest on the lights only.

btw, mine passed ok with the aftermarket HIDs fitted.

The new law seems to apply mainly to headlight washers and auto height adjusters, and if fitted, they must work for the MOT. As most aftermarket fit HIDs don't have these, then they cannot be tested.

And remember, there are some cars from factory build that have HIDs without headlight washers and auto adjusters.
