Unhappy A number of problems with 1.9 CDTI 150......

A knocking noise coming from the engine which has gotten louder and louder (now sounds very rough) which has now resulted in the engine vibrating quite badly at idle and up to between 1000 - 1500 rpm. Also, I now have a lot of exhaust fumes entering the cabin. Not good!!

Funny thing is though, there is no eml light or spanner light on, no loss of power or performance, no smoke (only a little on start up, but I'm assuming thats normal) and no overheating. MPG hasn't reduced. I've checked the oil and everything seems fine.

Once you get going the car seems fine. Theres still the knocking noise but not as loud and the vibrating goes away. The fumes are giving me a headache right enough. I'm trying not to use the car because of the fumes but I have a long trip coming up and need to get it sorted. I live in the middle of Argyll, 3 hours from Glasgow so no dealer garage to hand, only a local garage but I was wanting to see if anyone has had the same problem before I go to him.

    FYI, I have a 2007 57 plate 1.9 CDTI (150) SRI, 80,000 on the clock.

What smoke do you get on start-up, blue smoke?

If so this could be related to the fumes as its likely to be an injector issue, can you whip the engine cover off and see if any of them are leaking?

I had a bit of blue smoke with my CDTi on startup, but mine was EGR related, when blanked it no longer smokes.

When i had fumes in the car it was down to the flexi pipe on the exhaust which had a split in it, i think this is quite a common thing with vectras. Not sure about the vibrations, although a DMF on its way out would cause vibrations and a rattle, these rattles and vibrations are most noticable when the car is stationary.

Does your car have a DPF? When mine is regerating you can sometimes get that smell in the cabin?

Yeah its seems to be only when the car stops. I can coast at idle and it seems fine but as soon as I stop it comes back. Sorry to be a spanner but whats a DMF?

Fumes in the car normally point to the exhaust flexi being knackered

Iv had the same fault twice. 1st was the flexi on the exhaust. 2nd time was the flexi neck on the egr cooler (on 120 engine) its down front of engine under the heat shield.

Mine was more noisy one 2nd. (check your pollen filter if gas leak it will turn black with the exhaust gasesYou will only see the right hand section of flexi if heat shield fitted.

If you want to see the part type in eBay egr cooler and cdti. eBay ones seem to have end pipes removed. Vauxhall only suppy full cooler and both end pipes. £110 plus vat.

I only fitted right end pipe. If you need cooler and left bit let me know and sort a deal

Caused by back pressure due to dpf mainly blocked. Fault will reoccur as goes at weakest point (flexi) will need dpf removing (like mine) or new (£1200)

Dpf is an extra filter in the exhaust system that catches the soot then self cleans every so often. But these eventually get full and self clean. (estates have them but hatches don't ) these eventually can't clean anymore and block up causing back pressure. (can kill your turbo)My one sometimes would even force open a spring joint on exhaust pipe so couldn't find hole until it popped a flexi.

Hi mate, a DMF is a Dual Mass Flywheel....it's a whole subject on its own lol. Type DMF failure into the search bar :0
