Im having the usual vectra cdti 8v (2008) cold start problems, work done so far

    new battery
    new glow plugs
    new leak off pipes
    fuel filter
    air filter
    erg and boost cleaned
    new coolant temp sensor

iv found disconnecting the coolant temp sensor keeps the glow plug light on longer and starts the car first time, so im now looking for some info on a mentioned field remedy that keeps the glow plugs on longer, can anybody give me some info on this and how much it may cost? cheers in advance

I'd do the relay next as this does the timing etc for the plugs. If you know some one with same motor swop them over to test in advance??

Also guys I don't really understand why u mention starter motor ???
if he says he disconnect coolant sensor and starts first time surely starter motor got nothing to do with it , either is cranking or doesn't ..... I would be looking at glow plug relay , also are u 100% sure u have correct glow plugs in place ?

Starter motor - the reason it starts after disconnecting the coolant sensor is that if causes the glowplugs to run a much longer cycle than usual and when the engine is turned over if will fire up a lot easier - there are loads of posts re the starter motor being the cause of poor starting - as the motor gets older it will wear and as a result turns at a lower speed than is required to start the engine and will struggle - a new motor turns the engine over at a faster speed and solves the problem. I replaced mine after doing all the things the OP had done and have never looked back - it starts on the coldest mornings even without waiting for the g/plug cycle to finish.
    Have a look at http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...tarting-issues and http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...=starter+motor
