    Default Sri V6 CDti - Tyres - 91W or 95W

I need to replace all four tyres on the Vectra, it's the 3.0 V6 CDti Sri with the standard 215/50R17's - I'm settled on putting the same Michelin Primacy HP's on there but can save £120 as I can get the 95W's for about £30 each less than the 91W........I know the 95's are stronger and can take a bigger load but want to know if there's any reason NOT to fit the 95's?

Has anyone got any reason why I shouldn't fit the 95's? do they produce more road noise than the 91's? or do they not last as long or have less grip?

Your comments would be much appreciated. Thanks

Your car would originally have been supplied with :
    215/50R17 95W XL

You are supposed to continue to use this same specification
The 3.0 V6 CDTI is right on the border line for XL rated tyres, hence why they were fitted to all body style
On the Estate it just exceeds the limit

You could therefore use 91W rated tyres
However in the event there is one (or more) catastrophic tyre failures this pushes the remaining tyres over their load limit
I have had one such failure and although I managed to keep control I appreciate continuing to use XL rated tyres

There is no difference in road noise between 91W and 95W tyres, in the same profile specification
The difference is the construction method
Equally, there would be little difference between 225/45R17 and 215/50R17 (of the equivalent type)

I am now on my third set of Michelin Primacy HP 225/45R17 94W
Vastly cheaper than the 215/50R17 equivalent (when covering 35K miles a year)

Finally, swap tyres rear to front as they wear
This will mean running an old set of 215/50R17 tyres on the front for a short period, there is no issue with this

Thanks M8, much appreciated, when I bought the car it was 12 months old and came with Goodyear NCT's as 91W (they were a poor tyre!!) - good to know what it should have had on it. I'll be sticking to the Michelins but going for the 95W XL's as you recommend.

I can highly recommend Uniroyal Rainsport 2's.

Very good grip, and last quite a while too.
