Default P0244 error and turbo cutting out

A couple of times over the last year I've had the turbo suddenly die on me, no error codes or lights and turning the engine off and back on brought it back to life normally so I've not worried about it.

Tonight, it did it twice within 20 mins or so and the second time brought the spanner light on. Again cycling the ignition brought the turbo straight back again however, it noticeably boosted higher than I've seen it boost before hitting 1.2 bar, it usually maxes out at just under 1.1 and doesn't often hit that especially with the air temps we've had today, which also got my panic sensors "twitching" as something was causing it to over-boost.

When we got home, I checked for error codes and pulled off a P0244 code which seems to refer to the wastegate actuator. However a quick search around both on here and on Google seems to suggest it's the charge air bypass valve on the turbo and the boost solenoid on the inlet manifold that cause this problem.

I found a thread by Jezzy (I think) on a Saab forum and one by Dez on here that discussed this, but both threads had several people discussing different things in them so just wanted to double check what other people's experiences are with this and if I'm likely hitting the right parts with those two solenoids.

Had a similar issue on my wifes Sprinter van, not a vectra i know but this thing is so sophisticated electronically and it still didnt show a fault code, tried everything form a pedal position swith to a new turbo actuator (electronic) - turned out to be the EGR valve.

Hope this is of some help to you.

Thanks, but no fella, the 2.0T (Z20NET engine) doesn't have an EGR

Certainly seems to confirm what I've read, just hoping one of the guys that had the same issue historically can confirm that replacing the charge air bypass and boost solenoid sorted their problems. Cheers Don

Definitely change both of the boost valves, the one to the left of the turbo and the one to the left of the TB. They're cheap and often the cause of these problems, and it's not worth throwing any money at any other fixes until you've got those two out of the way.

Just had aproblem with my turbo..thought id blown it or the cat had gone..after much searching and scratching of head it ended up being a simple £2 fix. I replaced the vacum hose from the rear of the turbo to the front of the engine.Gotta be worth a look see methinks.

Thanks fella, first thing I checked, but they're all pretty new silicon ones and all present and accounted for and un-damaged.

Just ordered both valves from the local dealers, about £12 each which is £24 more than I can afford right now, but hopefully a reasonably cheap fix. Be in on Wednesday so guess what I'm doing Wednesday night
