Default Error code reading and code readers

My car has thrown up another error code, it looks like it has to do with the CAM PHASER SOLENOIDS, I had tried removing the filters but this hasnt helped.

I have also just done an engine flush and new oil as the oil looked very dirty after 8k miles and I wasnt sure that the selling garage had used the correct grade oil.

Anyway, firstly, is there anyone in the NE with a code reader that is willing to help? Will compensate with beer tokens ;-). Before I go to see Mr Vauxhall and part with much folding paper.

Secondly, I have seen code readers on Ebay for about £20 that link to your laptops, are these legal or are these the illegal ones that are not to be mentioned? if they are any good, will buy one myself and then help others.

    Any advice will be welcome.

Iv got a basic obd reader that works on vectra aprox 04 onwards(mine 05 1.9 8v)
Welcome to come over but I'm in Wallsend near Tyne tunnel and don't fix complicated stuff tho so no expert.
Basic obd reader will give you main code but the posh ones will break down the code into parts ie individual injector code. But basic will just give main code.

    More than welcome tho.

Well I have taken the plunge and ordered the recommended code reader, so if I can help anyone in the area, just shout.

Now it looks like its the MAF thats on its way out with a P0100 code by doing the pedal test. Before I buy a new one, is it worth trying to clean it with some carburettor/brake cleaner first??

Before I start messing about, should the revs change or fluctuate when I disconnect the MAF? Mine doesnt do a thing, it just ticks over the same with or without it being attached.

Pm critch mate if he doesn't see this post. He is very good at diagnosing these types of faults.

He helped a lot when I had a failing coil pack (but didn't know that at the time)

    Saved me money and effort
